Is It Possible To Put A Slate Roof On A Conservatory?

Conservatories are great things to have – for about 4 months of the year! The problem many people have is that conservatories are too cold in the summer and too hot in the winter. The solution to the problem is to have better insulation and a solid roof but can you use slate?

As slate is one of the most commonly used roofing materials out there, then naturally people will be curious about using it to add a roof to their conservatories for consistency. Unfortunately slate tiles are by their nature heavy, so they will require a strong supporting structure which is not what you get with a conservatory.

Conservatories are generally constructed using uPVC and wood which makes them unsuitable to support a heavy slate roof. Fortunately there are alternative materials that have the appearance of slate and will be much lighter and therefore more suitable for use on a conservatory roof.

There are a number of ways to convert a conservatory into a liveable space but often an extension can be the better long term option if you use the conservatory often. It will also add more value to a house so that the money you invest could be recouped with a higher property price.
